SM Seaside City Cebu to open in November

Cebu City Philippines, In November this year, SM Seaside City, the fourth largest SM mall nationwide, will open.
This is according to Hans Sy, president of SM Prime Holdings Inc., who was in Cebu yesterday for the mall’s tenant preview held inside SM Seaside City at the South Road Properties.
“We are looking to open the mall by November,” Sy told reporters at the sidelines of the event. In its four-year construction period, the company has already spent P7.5 billion for the mall development.
The next six years will be more exciting, he said, as they are targeting to completely develop the entire 30-hectare complex.
Upon completion, the site will have a convention center, which is planned to be as big as the 24,000-square meter SMX Convention Center in Pasay, a hotel, and high-rise residential and office towers.
“The whole complex will cost P20 billion, but we have to raise our budget to P30 billion,” Sy said, citing the company’s confidence in their investments in Cebu and the positive response they are getting.
Sy said SM Seaside City will be the fourth largest SM mall in the country, having a gross floor area of 470,000 square meters. SM’s biggest malls are SM Megamall (570,000 sqm.), SM North Edsa (540,000 sqm.), and SM Mall of Asia (480,000 sqm.).
The official said there is space for more than 400 tenants and that 50 percent have already signed up. Names of the tenants, however, were not disclosed.
“What I can say that for is half of the tenants, it will be their first time in Cebu,” Sy said, referring to global brands that have already set foot in Metro Manila years ago, but have not yet penetrated Cebu.

Amazonian Tribe Makes First Contact With Outside World

Members of an isolated tribe have emerged from the Amazon rainforest and made contact with
the outside world in a video released by Brazil's indigenous authority. The video shows indigenous people from the Panoan linguistic group carrying bows and wearing loin clothes making contact with the Ashaninka native people of northern Brazil along the banks of the Envira River, near the Peruvian border.

In one scene, an ethnic Ashaninka in athletic shorts gives bananas to two loincloth-clad natives who appear wary of approaching, quickly grabbing the fruit and then retreating out of arm's reach. Brazilian experts said the indigenous people likely crossed the border from Peru facing pressure from illegal logging and drug trafficking at home. After the native people made initial contact with the Ashaninka on June 26, a team from Brazil's National Indian Foundation (FUNAI) traveled to the area and filmed a second encounter on June 30, according to news portal G1, which posted the . The people, identified as members of a group known as the Rio Xinane, at first emerged only briefly and then returned to the forest, said FUNAI official Carlos Travassos. "They were whistling and making animal sounds," he said. Two Panoan indigenous interpreters were then called in to speak with them on their next visit.

"They speak our language. I was so happy we could talk to each other," said one of the interpreters, Jaminawa Jose Correia. He said the natives had come in search of weapons and allies.

"They described being attacked by non-native people and many died after coming down with the flu and diphtheria,"

he told G1. Anthropologist Terri Aquino said the group had probably come in search of axes, knives and pots. "This is a people looking for technology. It's important in their lives because there's an internal war among them and because of contact with non-indigenous groups," he said. Another scene in the video shows the natives taking axes from the ethnic Ashaninka village of Simpatia. FUNAI said the group had returned from the forest after their initial visit because they had contracted the flu. A government medical team was sent to treat seven from the group. Rights group Survival International said the episode was extremely worrying, since influenza epidemics have wiped out entire tribes in the past. The Brazilian Amazon has the largest number of uncontacted tribes in the world at 77, FUNAI estimates.

Costa Rica vs. Greece: Final score 1-1 (5-3), 10-man Ticos win on penalties

Despite being reduced to 10 men for the last third of the game, Costa Rica clinched a win over Greece to record their best ever performance in a World Cup.
The Ticos have been on a fairytale run ever since topping Group D -- a so-called "Group of Death" -- and will now be contesting a World Cup quarterfinal thanks to Bryan Ruiz, who scored the decisive goal. Oscar Duarte saw himself sent off shortly afterwards, and Greece eventually found a breakthrough in the first minute of injury time when Sokratis Papastathopoulos scored to force extra time. But Costa Rica held on, and a heroic performance from Keylor Navas helped them after he produced a superb save to send the Ticos to a victory in the shootout.
The first half was mostly a cagey affair with both sides looking to play on the counter-attack, although there were a limited amount of chances. A decent move saw Ruiz feed Christian Bolanos early on, but the midfielder blazed his shot over the bar when well-placed to test the goalkeeper.
It was Greece who came the closest to scoring in the first half with José Holebas delivering a sensational cross from deep for Dimitris Salpingidis. Although the forward's cushioned volley was true, he still failed to score as Keylor Navas managed to keep it out with his trailing leg, another stunning save for a hugely impressive tournament for the Ticos keeper.

Yet less than 10 minutes into the second half, Costa Rica found their opener. Bolanos found Ruiz in space in the area, and the forward finished with a deliciously calm shot which took advantage of Karnezis' poor field of vision, calmly rolling the ball past him and into the corner of the net to give his country one foot in their first ever World Cup quarterfinal.
Costa Rica were looking on top, but the game was to take a further twist as Duarte foolishly went in with a late challenge on Holebas to earn himself a second yellow card and leave the Ticos with 30 minutes to hang on with a numerical disadvantage.
Greece poured forward with little to lose, but Costa Rica were holding out well enough. Georgios Samaras produced one archetypal piece of skill to unlock the Ticos' defence, falling over as he stumbled into putting a good ball into the box, but Navas was able to get it away.
Greece's terminal lack of creativity looked like it was going to cost them, yet another late goal was to come just as the game looked lost. Theofanis Gekas ought to have scored with his effort on goal and was denied by another huge save from Navas, but Papastathopoulos was waiting to prod home the rebound and prompt extra time.
Costa Rica were looking all but beaten due to exhaustion as the next 30 minutes began, but Gekas missed another fine chance after a good cross from Vasilis Torosidis. At the second half of extra time, the Ticos somehow managed to find some energy to briefly rally and create a few half-chances, with Brenes and Campbell both having decent opportunities.
Costa Rica came close from a corner but somehow contrived to allow Greece to spring a 5-on-2 counter-attack, yet when the shot eventually came from Mitroglou it was kept out by Navas, who produced another fine save to keep his team in the game. Despite the extreme fatigue of the players, the final 10 minutes were an end-to-end affair of chances at both ends, none greater than when Mitroglou collected a flick-on only for Navas, who flew out of his goal, to deny him.
It was left to penalties to separate the two sides -- Celso Borges smashed home the opening penalty before Mitroglou belied his earlier misses by confidently slotting one home. Ruiz and Christodoulopoulos both also converted in a display of excellent penalty-taking before Gonzalez and Holebas also scored. The exhausted Campbell then stepped up and managed to put his away.
Next to step up was the veteran Gekas, but Navas produced maybe the best moment of his superb tournament so far to thrust out a hand and deflect it away. Michael Umana then confidently dispatched his to complete the historic night for the tiny Central American nation.
Costa Rica: Navas; Gonzalez, Duarte (sent off 66'), Gamboa (Acosta 77'), Umaña, Diaz; Borges, Bolanos (Brenes 83'), Tejeda (Cubero 66'); Ruiz; Campbell
Goals: Ruiz (52')
Greece: Karnezis, Holebas, Manolas, Papastathopoulos, Torosidis; Karagounis, Maniatis (Katsouranis 78'), Samaris (Mitroglou 58'), Salpingidis (Gekas 69'),  Christodoulopoulos, Samaras
Goals: Papastathopoulos (90+1')

Costa Rica took the lead against Greece then saw themselves reduced to 10 men, with Greece equalising in the last minute. But the Ticos held on to clinch a win on penalties thanks to the heroics of Keylor Navas.

Top 5 World's Cleanest Country 2014

The declining health of Mother Earth has drawn growing attention over the last two decades, with countries coming together to fight a range of environmental threats, from declining fishing stocks to global warming.
Witness the Kyoto Protocol, the first widely adopted set of environmental protection guidelines, which emerged during the 1990s and took effect in 2005. Kyoto led to the development of the first large-scale emissions trading market, Europe’s Greenhouse Gas Emission Trading Scheme, which puts caps on carbon dioxide pollution. A similar carbon market, the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, began operating at the start of this year in 10 Eastern U.S. states.
In spite of nearly universal support for a cleaner globe (the U.S. was one of only a few countries that failed to adopt Kyoto), it’s mainly the rich nations that enjoy pristine environments, according to the Environmental Performance Index (EPI). Columbia University’s Center for International Earth Science Information Network and Yale University’s Center for Environmental Law and Policy developed the index to highlight the cleanest countries, and give laggards the opportunity to benchmark efforts to improve their own environments and the health of their citizens.
