The future has arrived — again. The trailer for next year’s Terminator: Genisys has dropped, giving audiences their first chance to see the next generation of Skynet’s time-traveling robotic killers."Come with me if you want to live!"
The debut of the trailer is the culmination of a week of promotion for the movie, which started with a “living one-sheet” showing the familiar Terminator skull crumbling to dust, followed by a teaser trailer that hinted at some iconic moments from the franchise’s past. Both were accompanied by the social media hashtag #HeIsBack. The trailer was posted to Facebook by the British Terminator: Genisys page ahead of the end of a scheduled countdown on the movie's official website (At time of writing, that clock still has two hours to go).
The trailer opens with John Connor (Jason Clarke) preparing for a final battle against the robotic forces of Skynet, before sending his best friend Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back in time to protect his mother, whom he describes as “scared and weak.” Except, as the first appearance of Emilia Clarke demonstrates, she’s anything but. (She even gets to say the classic “Come with me if you want to live” line this time around.) From there, the trailer reveals the time paradox in play in the new movie, as an older Arnold Schwarzenegger confronts his younger self from the 1984 original movie. “Everything’s changed,” Connor says — except for the amount of carnage a Terminator movie delivers, it seems.
